Dr. Tonjia Coverdale is Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. In her role, she focuses on strategic technology implementation for operational efficiencies and institutional effectiveness with an emphasis on the deployment of innovative, smart technology-based solutions to support student success, retention, and institutional growth and sustainability. She has a passion for and dedicated commitment to increasing socioeconomic mobility through educational attainment via technology access. Her current interest is the transforming the higher education experience through leveraging smart technologies to meet the ever-evolving needs of modern students.
Dr. Coverdale is an IT executive, professional, and scholar who has cultivated her unique perspective of the field through the combination of academic theories, applied research, industry practices, and strategic focus. She holds three degrees in information systems: B.S. and Ph.D. from Morgan State University and an MBA from Georgia State University. Dr. Coverdale has 22 years as an IT professional including roles with IBM, HP, Accenture, and President and CEO of the (U.S.) Virgin Islands Next Generation Network, where she completed the construction of one of the first 100% fiber-optic broadband networks in the U.S. to service an entire State/Territory. Having pursued a dual career path in both industry and academia, she also has 18 years of experience in higher education as a University administrator and IT professor.
